FAQ

What are your rental rates?

Your accessibility is our business!

Where are you located?
Wheelers’ has locations throughout the United States. We are working hard at expanding our rental locations so we can offer you more options for renting and providing you a greater level of access. If you are interested in becoming a Wheelers rental affiliate, go to the “Become A Wheelers Affiliate” Section of our website. There you will get complete information about our program, how you can sign up and what your investment might look like.

Do you deliver?
Yes we do! We delivery any place of convenience for you, i.e., hotel, airport, home, office, train depot, wherever you need. Some of our locations also deliver Power Wheelchair and Scooters with our vans to provide you the most in accessible transportation. Delivery fees vary from time of year, time of day and length of rental. Contact the location you want to rent from to obtain a solid quote on delivery and pickup fees.

What type of vehicles are available?
Wheelers offers the best modified vehicles the industry has to offer. To get more information on these vehicles, please refer to the “Vehicles We Use” section of our website. There you will find information on the vehicles and their modifiers. You will also be able to watch videos on the operations of the vehicles, tie-downs and other information about them.

Can insurance pay the cost of renting an accessible vehicle?
There are instances where insurance will pay for the rental, but generally, it's when your vehicle has been in an accident and the other person's insurance is paying. The regulation for insurance companies who are replacing your vehicle when your vehicle has been struck by one of their insureds is, "The insurance company of the person at fault for the accident, has to put you at the same condition or better." Which means if you are driving a vehicle which has a lift or ramp, hand controls, spinner knob and/or a transfer seat, they have to rent something as close to that as they can. Not all locations will be able to provide every item that you need for the vehicle to be driven safely, but the minimum requirements of what you need to be provided transportation can be and they are responsible for it. When speaking with the insured insurance company, be polite; request the equipment you need to get back on the road again. We have been working with insurance companies for years and have never had a problem. I doubt you will either.

I am going on a road trip, can I rent an accessible van to drive across country and then leave it at the other location ?
We'd love to be able to assist you in traveling across this beautiful country. However, you will need to talk to the location you want to rent from and get their feedback on costs and availability of this service.

Does Wheelers provide liability and collision coverage?
Wheelers Corporate provides waivers, which is NOT insurance. These waivers may decrease your responsibility for loss or use and damage to the vehicle. Declining the Protection Coverage's offered by Wheelers, the renter must provide proof of FULL COVERAGE (comprehensive, collision and liability) insurance.  The renter's drivers insurance policies are Primary and must cover the rented vehicle, including the modification and accessibility equipment and its occupants, as well as liability coverage that provides coverage for damage done to others property. Wheelers Loss Damage Waiver - $500 Deductible Renter's Liability Coverage - $1500 Deductible

Can I arrange for a Scooter or Wheelchair rental?
Some of our locations provide rental of wheelchair, scooters or other medical equipment. When you contact the Wheelers location of your choice, just ask them about any items you might need.  If they don’t offer it for rent or sale, I’m sure they will provide contacts for you of companies that can assist you. Your accessibility and comfort is our business!

How Well Do You Know Your Insurance Coverage
Credit Card Coverage If you have an accident with a Wheelers AVR van and you've declined the Wheelers AVR Optional Protection Plans because you thought your credit card insurance covered you, consider these facts: You must pay for your rental using the card providing coverage or the coverage will not apply. Most cards only reimburse you for your deductible after your own insurance pays. Some cards don't pay unless you submit documented, "paid by you first" repair bills within a specified time. Some don't cover rentals that last longer than a certain period. Some don't cover certain van types or classes, (e.g., large Sport Utility Vehicles or certain luxury vans). Some only cover you if you purchase separate, additional, one-time rental van coverage before each rental or enroll in advance and pay an additional fee for each rental. Some don't cover rentals on cards issued outside the USA. Credit card rental coverage is for damage to the van, not for liability claims against you by people injured in an accident.   Personal Automobile Insurance Coverage And if you think your own van insurance covers you for damage to the Wheelers AVR van, consider these facts: Insurance coverage varies depending on the state in which it is issued. Insurance coverage can also vary from insurer to insurer. Your coverage may be limited to the value of the van you own, not the one you're renting, or the limits of your property damage coverage. Some policies don't cover rental vans, or cover them only when your van is being repaired. If your insurance doesn't pay Wheelers AVR in full, you're still responsible for the remainder. Your insurance premium could be raised because of this claim. Your insurance could be canceled if that claim makes you too high of a risk.   What should you do? If you've carefully checked with your own insurance agent or insurer and the charge card company you use to rent and are fully satisfied with the coverage they provide, you may choose to decline the Wheelers AVR Optional Protection Plans. But if you are not sure about your coverage, or if you have determined you are not adequately covered, accepting the Wheelers AVR Optional Protection Plan that suits your needs may be a good choice for you.   Options available to you... Wheelers AVR offers optional services individually and in a variety of protection packages, which contain useful combinations of the optional services. When describing these services, we've tried to eliminate the confusing legal terms in order to give you a clearer understanding of the options available to you and to help you determine which, if any, you may need.   How do I accept these Options? To accept any of the Optional Services outlined below, simply advise the Wheelers AVR agent at the time of your reservation. You will then be automatically covered for the rental period for the additional daily charge specified on the Rental Agreement for each of the Optional Services selected. You are under no obligation to purchase any of these options as a condition of renting.

Digital Agreement
To make your rental experience go smoothly we have created the Digital Rental Agreement.  By completing the form online or with one of our customer service representatives, you are in all actuality providing us your signature for the rental agreement.  If you choose to have one of our agents do the agreement with you over the phone, the phone call will be recorded and used as backup information for the rental agreement. You will be asked questions from the Terms and Conditions section of the agreement and asked to consent to the terms, at that point, your signature will be added to the agreement.  If you choose to do the agreement online, you will need to read and then sign your name in the signature sections providing us your digital signature and authorize Wheelers to charge your credit card and that you agree to the terms of the rental agreement.

Authorized Drivers
The only persons authorized to drive this vehicle are you and persons whose name, license numbers, date of birth, as well as other information, entered by us on this agreement. All drivers are REQUIRED TO HAVE FULL-COVERAGE INSURANCE. The person Renting the vehicle is not required to be a driver, but may only pay for the rental and have family/aids drive so long as they have the appropriate insurance and who is on this agreement.

Assigned Vehicle
The vehicle assigned to the rental agreement may change prior to your arrival due to calendar and customer needs. Substituting one van for another, does not eliminate your responsibility to the agreement. Company will assign a vehicle which offers the same type of equipment. Color and vehicle age may vary.

Special Charges
If I represent that I'll return the car to another location, I may have to pay "pickup and/or delivery fee" shown on the rental document. If I return the car to a location different from agreed return location without your written permission, I will pay an "unauthorized return location fee" which is determined by cost of retrieval.

Additional Cleaning Fee
You may have to pay reasonable fees for cleaning the vehicle's interior upon return for excessive stains, dirt or spillage attributable to your use.  If you have created stains, extra dirt/sand or spilled something, please get it cleaned prior to the return of the vehicle. It may cost you less than having to pay penalty fees for returning the van with stains, dirty and/or spillage.

Not Reporting Damage
If you have caused damage to the interior or exterior of the vehicle, please report the damage immediately.  We want to help you spend the least amount possible for getting things fixed and we need to prepare for when the van returns to get the damage repaired so the next customer will not be affected by the accident/incident.  Not reporting damage will cost you much more in the end.
