Customer Reviews

Finding accessible vehicles for rental is not an easy task, and also at a reasonable price makes it all the more difficult. But I cannot recommend this company, highly enough. The SUV was roomy enough for a large power chair,it was in good condition, extremely easy to drive. We had enough room for us and all our luggage. The Ricon restraint system for the chair was easy to use. We had a generous 2000 miles for our two week rental, and we managed to visit a large area of California on our roadtrip.”

-Jacqueline A.

They made my friend’s birthday trip to SeaWorld a complete success. The van was safe and comfortable and had all of the necessary equipment to properly secure her chair while traveling and the ramp was perfect.”

About Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles is a massive tourist hotspot. There are a ton of things to do, and it’s full of major attractions, museums, and other entertainment venues that have wheelchair accessibility in mind.

LA is world-renowned thanks to being the most iconic city for big-screen entertainment–Hollywood movie productions and A-list celebrities alike.

You’ll also find the best amusement parks nearby, including Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knott’s Berry Farm, and Six Flags Magic Mountain.

But Los Angeles isn’t just about movie stars and theme parks. The list of amazing restaurants, live shows, outdoor activities, and ample shopping is nearly endless!

Below, we dive into helpful information for those visiting Los Angeles, with an emphasis on wheelchair users.

Important Information Before Visiting Los Angeles

As with any new city you plan to visit, there are a few considerations to keep in mind–namely, weather, accommodations, and transportation.

The weather in Los Angeles is considered sunny and mild. Perfect for outdoor activities year-round. Keep in mind that while summers are dry, winters are known to be the rainy season.

You’re not limited to the number of lodging options in LA. The city has something for everyone. While just about every major hotel is designed for wheelchair accessibility, there are many older establishments that may not be as friendly as newer-constructed buildings.

When it comes to transportation, Los Angeles accommodates individuals who use wheelchairs. You’ll find obliging public buses and metro lines, rideshare and taxi services, and specialized transportation like wheelchair-accessible van rentals.

Food

Foodies rejoice… Los Angeles is where it’s at! The incredible variety of dining options that span every cuisine you can possibly imagine makes Los Angeles a true food lover’s paradise.

Let’s dive into a few fan favorites.

First up is Bestia. Located in the trendy Arts District of LA, this restaurant prepares inventive Italian dishes and house-made charcuterie. Keep in mind that some menu items are seasonal, and you’ll want to call in advance for a reservation.

Another popular tourist dining destination is Guelaguetza. This Koreatown neighborhood restaurant serves fine Mexican cuisine inspired by the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. Try their tlayudas (aka Oaxacan pizza), chapulines (roasted and seasoned grasshoppers), or the Oaxacan tamales!

The Grand Central Market is in the downtown area and is a culinary hub that features dozens of different vendors on any given day. This is the perfect destination for groups who can’t decide on what they want to eat.

Hotels

As mentioned, there’s no shortage of centrally-located hotels in Los Angeles. Lodging options range from budget-conscious motels to extravagant luxury resorts.

For a luxurious stay, check out The Beverly Hilton. This historic hotel, often visited by Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor shortly after opening in 1955, is a four out of five in regard to cost, but it’s a five-star stay for those lucky enough to book a room.

Next up is the more affordable but equally as welcoming Omni Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza. Featuring spacious rooms, sweeping city views, and close proximity to downtown museums, theaters, and restaurants, staying at this hotel will definitely be a highlight of your trip.

Additionally, priced around the same as the Omni and also located downtown, The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites is recognized for its distinct architectural design (futuristic look) and revolving cocktail lounge with panoramic views of the city.

Tourist Destinations

Where do we start? There are so many fun things to do in Los Angeles. You’re never left in limbo. Here are some of our favorite places to see.

The Griffith Observatory, perched on top of the southern slope of Mount Hollywood, is just a couple of miles from the legendary Hollywood Sign. This destination can get crowded; however, it has accessible ramps, elevators, and viewing areas for all visitors.

Known for its impressive art collection, The Getty Center, located on the west side of LA in the Brentwood neighborhood, is another popular tourist spot. If you have an appreciation for European paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts, you’ll enjoy your time here.

You can’t go to Los Angeles without seeing the ocean, right? With this mindset, head on over to Santa Monica Pier and Beach Path. The boardwalk is accessible, plus there are tons of nearby attractions, entertainment venues, and restaurants to make a day of it.

Weather

The weather in Southern California is one of the main attractions for both visitors and residents. While the summer months get a bit toasty, with temps reaching the mid-90s on the hottest days, evenings are much more enjoyable at the low-70s.

Fall and spring bring highs in the 70s with cooler evenings, but not too cold–making nighttime exploration and activities ideal.

Although winters are generally mild, you should pack a light jacket as a second layer of clothing when the temperature dips into the 50s.
