About Palm Springs, CA
Palm Springs is a celebrated desert-resort city located in Southern California. The city is known for its hot springs, golf courses, and other outdoor activities like hiking, tennis, bike riding.
Visitors appreciate the abundance of museums, art galleries, and cultural heritage Palm Springs has to offer. Additionally, there are plenty of shopping and dining opportunities for those looking for a new outfit, gift to bring home, or night out that includes a delicious dinner.
You’re going to love teaming up with Wheelers Accessible Van Rentals when planning your trip to Palm Springs. Below we provided some information about the area in an effort to make your trip as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
Important Information Before Visiting Palm Springs
In order to ensure your trip goes off without a hitch, you’ll want to take the weather, your accommodations, and your transportation into consideration.
Palm Springs enjoys a desert climate. This means intense summer heat and cold winter nights. During hot days, it’s important that you remember to hydrate. Do not spend too much time outdoors during the hottest hours of the day and be sure to wear protective clothing and sunscreen.
Accommodations are plentiful. You have an array of options from budget-friendly hotels to high-end resorts to choose from.
Getting around Palm Springs is relatively easy as the city is largely designed around tourist needs. However, having your own transportation is highly recommended. Wheelers is one of the few vehicle rental options to offer wheelchair accessible vans, which gives our customers further reaching access to the city’s main attractions.

Food
If you’re a foodie, Palm Springs is for you! There are countless options for dining, regardless of the fare you’re craving. Here are a few of our favorite restaurants.
Workshop Kitchen + Bar, located downtown Palm Springs, is a farm-to-table local favorite. You can expect seasonal offerings and California-inspired dishes. This restaurant has even earned a place on the 2024 MICHELIN Guide USA.
Cheeky’s is a popular spot for breakfast and brunch in Palm Springs. Their dishes are creative, made to order, and ingredients are locally-sourced. Keep in mind, the menu changes regularly to match seasonality or ingredient availability, which is one of the biggest reasons patrons keep coming back, but also means your favorite dish may not be available when you return.
El Mirasol Cocina Mexicana is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the state, dating back to the mid-1980s. You’ll find the restaurants take on classics, like tacos and burritos, to be exceptionally flavorful.
Hotels
As mentioned, there are a lot of hotel options in Palm Springs – most of which are centrally located. Below are three of the hotels we recommend when visiting.
The first is The Parker Palm Springs. This retro-chic hotel features multiple pools, dining, and a day spa known as the Palm Springs Yacht Club. If you’re looking to pamper yourself a bit on your vacation, the personalized spa treatments, indoor saltwater pool, and nautical-themed decor will make you forget you’re in the middle of the desert.
La Quinta Resort & Club is a Waldorf Astoria Resort property and when we say it has it all, it really does! We’re talking multiple golf courses, tennis courts, several dining options, and they too have a day spa. In addition, there are no fewer than 41 pools and 53 hot spas located throughout the property.
JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa is yet another popular Palm Springs lodging destination that is designed to make your stay as peaceful and stress-free as possible. With swimming pools, diverse restaurants, and, you guessed it, an enchanting day spa, your stay feels like it wasn’t long enough.
Tourist Destinations
Palm Springs Aerial Tramway boasts the world’s largest rotating tram car which travels 2.5 miles along the cliffs of Chino Canyon. The views of Mt. San Jacinto State Park are truly breathtaking and a must-see.
If art is your thing, you don’t want to miss out on visiting the Palm Springs Art Museum. This gallery features a diverse collection of contemporary works and wonderfully curated Native American artifacts and Mesoamerican pieces.
Indian Canyons is a popular hiking and nature viewing experience. Visitors enjoy the scenic canyons, streams, and indigenous flora. The paved paths and gentle grades make this one of the best wheelchair-friendly hiking opportunities near Palm Springs.
Weather
Palm Springs’ weather can get into the low triple digits during the summer and, as we noted above, is hot enough to cause serious health issues. So stay hydrated and avoid going out into the sun during peak hours – midday to 5:00 PM.
Weatherwise, fall and spring are two of the best times of year to visit thanks to lows in the mid-60s and highs in the mid-80s. And while the winter lows in the mid-40s and highs in the mid-70s may be a bit cold for some, an extra layer of clothing is typically all you need to have a cozy visit.
