The American Tobacco Trail: There’s a lot of history in this part of the country. The American Tobacco Trail is over 20 miles long. And as of a couple years ago, a newly built bridge now connects the north and south regions of the trail. Bear witness to wild beavers, hawks, owls, turtles, and herons, living between enormous and beautiful pines.

At the end on the southern side has a nice playground in Village Park. The trail ends in Baker’s Creek Park. Once you get there you can relax and look up at blue skies on a sunny North Carolina afternoon. The park has plenty of picnic areas and wheelchair accessible restrooms. And if you’re not yet satisfied with a big of a shorter trail, the Baker’s Creek Greenway connects to a number of other equally scenic trails.

Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway: Now here is the mother of all awesome wheelchair accessible North Carolina trails. You don’t have to be a professional birdwatcher to appreciate the variety of iconic birds there are in this park. That includes the rare and remarkable blue heron, egrets, ospreys, and yes, the all American bald eagle. Also keep an eye out for signs that will direct to hot spots and other trails to keep yourself occupied and satisfied with the outing. In North Carolina, you’ll never be at a loss of outdoor activity.
