The 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing, China is well underway, and the world has been watching as these talented athletes take the stage in their quest for gold. There is no doubt that this year’s games are something special. With Ukraine under attack from Russia, the world is cheering for them as they hold on to a spot in the top three highest-medaling nations with 19 in total.

The Paralympic Games began as a way to celebrate the success of athletes with physical disabilities. The first Paralympic Games were held in Rome, Italy, in 1960. A total of 400 athletes from 23 different countries participated in the games.

Since then, the Paralympic Games have grown into one of the largest sporting events in the world. Today, more than 500 athletes from over 160 countries compete in the games.

Rooting for our Paralympians

The Paralympic Games have come a long way since their inception in 1960. They are now a global phenomenon that celebrates the strength and courage of athletes with disabilities.

Wheeler’s Accessible Van Rentals is proud to have a long history of not only rooting for our Paralympian Athletes but also playing an integral role in the games themselves.

The logistics of transporting so many elite athletes between their lodging and the many different sporting venues is a monumental challenge, regardless of the sport. The Paralympic Games naturally present a different layer of challenges that require specialized solutions. Fortunately, as a leading provider of accessible van rentals across the country, we are uniquely positioned to help.

During the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta, GA, our team was honored to donate wheelchair-accessible vans which were used for the transportation of our Paralympians, as well as for attendees and the general population during the games. We donated eight vans for use at the games, which our team delivered to Atlanta, and brought back home when the games wrapped up.

Looking Ahead To The 2024 Summer Games In Paris

As this year’s Paralympic Games come to a close next week, we’ll set our sites on the many Para-sporting events that happen across the country, and the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris. We’ll continue to support our Paralympians and para-athletes of all levels with handicap accessible vans for rent to help them get wherever they need to go, so they can go for the gold at the next games!
