Can you clarify fees, like late or cleaning fees?
At Wheelers Accessible Van Rentals, we aim to be transparent about all fees associated with our rentals. Late and cleaning fees are only applied when necessary, such as when a vehicle is returned significantly overdue or filthy. We understand that circumstances are beyond your control, and we strive to be fair. However, these policies are in place to ensure that the next renter is not inconvenienced.
The return time is based on the renter’s request as specified in the contract. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need clarification on any charges. For your records, we recommend taking photos of the vehicle upon pick up. If you’ve taken photos, text them to our reservation center at 623-776-8830. We value your feedback, so please contact our team if you feel we unfairly added fees to your rental.
What if pickup/drop-off times or rates change last-minute?
We understand that sometimes plans change unexpectedly. While we try to adhere to the agreed-upon schedule and rates, unforeseen circumstances may require adjustments.
If you need to make last-minute changes to your pickup/drop-off times or rates, please contact our customer service team immediately. We will work with you to find a solution that best meets your needs.
Our team may need to make adjustments as well. We will prioritize communication with you in the event of last-minute changes, and you will not experience late fees.
Can you remove the front passenger seat?
No, our vehicles are kept in their standard configuration for safety and compliance, and this option is not available at all locations. If you have specific accessibility needs, our team is happy to help you explore the best available options.
Do your van rentals come with hand controls?
We truly understand how important hand controls can be for safe and comfortable driving. While we don’t currently offer hand controls due to our contactless rental model, which limits our ability to install and remove specialized equipment, we’re still here to support you. We are more than happy to point you toward a trusted company that specializes in hand control installation or help guide you to alternative options that may better meet your individual needs.
Does Wheelers require a security deposit?
Yes, Wheelers requires a security deposit, which is authorized 24 – 48 hours prior to the rental. This authorization is used for incidentals such as damage, returning the vehicle dirty, accidents, or missing equipment. If any policies are not followed, the authorization amount will be captured.
Do you have roadside assistance if needed when I rent?
Absolutely. Your safety and peace of mind are important to us. We offer 24/7 roadside assistance, 365 days a year, so help is always just a call away. A knowledgeable team member is always on call, and we immediately coordinate with trusted local service providers to support you and get you back on the road as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Will a lot attendant be there to show me how to use the van and equipment?
Our rentals are completely contactless, so there isn’t a lot attendant on site. To make it easy and convenient for the disability community to rent and get on the road, we provide detailed instructional videos to guide you through using the van and its equipment. Plus, our experienced customer service team is always available to answer any questions or address any concerns.
Why are your rentals contactless instead of in person?
We designed our contactless model over 40 years to make renting quick, easy, and convenient for the disability community. We understand that waiting in long lines for pick-up or drop-off can be challenging, so our process is built to get you on the road as fast and smoothly as possible.
What are the instructions for how to rent a van?
It’s simple! You can start your reservation online, call us at 800-456-1371 or 623-462-9488, or email Reservations@wheelersavr.com. Because everyone’s mobility and travel needs are unique, reservations aren’t confirmed until you speak with a live agent, ensuring you get the best van for
your needs.
Will my wheelchair or scooter fit?
All of our vans are ADA-compliant, but that doesn’t mean every wheelchair or scooter will fit perfectly. We understand that electric and manual wheelchairs and scooters come in many sizes, weights, modifications, and we cannot access your personal mobility equipment. We respect and honor the diverse needs of the disability community and provide videos, brochures upon request, and some guidance so you can make the best decision for your individual mobility needs.
Are there any special driving requirement for accessible vans?
No special license is needed beyond your standard driver’s license. Our vans handle like regular vehicles, but we encourage first-time drivers to review our instructional materials and familiarize themselves with the van before driving.
What are your hours of operation?
Our reservation center is open Monday–Friday, 8 AM–6 PM, and Saturday, 8 AM–6 PM. We are closed on Sundays and major holidays. Van pick-ups and drop-offs outside these hours are available by request. About California
California is one of the westernmost states that make up the contiguous 48 states. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Oregon to the north, Nevada and Arizona to the east, and Mexico to the south. California has over 39.5 million residents, making it the most populous state in the U.S. It also has the largest sub-national economy in the world. Historically, California contained the highest Native American population density north of what is now Mexico and was one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse areas in North America. Spanish explorers first landed on the coast in 1542, claiming it for the Spanish Empire. In 1821 The Mexican War of Independence successfully granted Mexico, which included present-day California, independence from Spain. America acquired the land during the Mexican-American War in 1847 and it officially became the nation’s 31st state in 1850. California is known for its car culture and its transportation relies primarily on its vast highway system comprised of many freeways, limited-access roads, and state highways.

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of America’s most iconic landmarks. The 8,890-foot suspension bridge spans the strait that connects the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean. The Golden Gate Bridge is wheelchair accessible and offers disabled access on its pedestrian walkway, in the welcome center, and on nature trails around the coastline. Most visitors start at the welcome center which is easily accessible to wheelchair users. There are wheelchair-accessible bathroom stalls in the restroom nearby the welcome center. From the welcome center, a gently sloping ramp leads up to the bridge’s pedestrian walkway. The walkway is wide enough to accommodate both pedestrians and bikers and has a safety barrier to separate the walkway from traffic. The surface of the walkway is smooth concrete. In addition to the pedestrian walkway, some trails lead underneath the bridge and connect to nearby parks. The surfaces vary between paved and packed dirt. The packed dirt segments may be difficult for some wheelchair users to navigate.
